If you – like me – have lots of spare batteries then you have probably suffered from not knowing which ones came out of your camera flat and which ones are charged and ready to go. I’ve experimented with various ways of sorting it out. I’ve tried different pockets in my camera bag, different pockets in my clothing but in the heat of the moment when you are trying to capture that perfect image things need to be as simple as possible. This is what I do now. All of my batteries are numbered and I always use the next one in the sequence. So if my camera has battery one in it two is next.
The system works when you have a battery grip too as you just use them two at a time. Since numbering my batteries I’m always fully aware of where I’m at and my workflow is less disrupted.
Best solutions for numbering
My first method was to use a sharpie but after a while the ink wears off. My new approach is to use a label maker. The labels are much more resilient and, when you are in a hurry, easier to read.
