Chloe & Alex – A rainy-day wedding at The Parish of St Mary Heworth & Bowburn Hall
St Mary’s at Heworth is a church we’ve driven past so many times but never had the opportunity to visit so when Chloe & Alex invited us to photograph their wedding we were excited to take a look inside. We love a church wedding as we get the chance to capture a day of two parts. We love being part of the whole day which for me started at Alex’s parent’s house. A fabulous fry up and gifts for the groomsmen made the morning while Chloe and “Team Bride” enjoyed a glass of bubbly. The church provided a wonderful backdrop for the marriage ceremony and our first set of couples shouts. Its urban location, next to Heworth Metro Station, makes it an ideal venue especially because the church officials were very helpful and welcoming. The rain continued to fall as we set off to Bowburn Hall for the reception. We need to be very adaptable on the day because of changing weather conditions a short break in the rain allowed us to get some group shots outside at the hall. We also used battery-powered studio lighting to set up for Vogue-style wedding party shots inside. We love that despite being described as “Born Angry” during the speeches Alex was game for some quirkier shots including being lifted by the bridesmaids. We pride ourselves on getting to know our couples and we’d learned on the pre-wedding shoot that Chloe and Alex were huge Friends fans. Check out our Friends-inspired wedding party shot with the coloured umbrellas that made this one uniquely theirs.
What an amazing day and a tremendous start to their lives as Mr & Mrs Reed.
